Congressman Al Green’s Statement on the Nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the U.S. Supreme Court
(Houston, TX) – On Friday, February 25, 2022, Congressman Al Green (TX-09) released the following statement:
“In the 233-year history of the U.S. Supreme Court, 115 Justices have served on its bench, and not a single one has been a Black woman. President Biden’s announcement today to nominate Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson as Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court is a historic, barrier-breaking decision for women and the Black community across our nation. Throughout her judiciary tenure and career as a public servant, Judge Brown Jackson has repeatedly demonstrated her commitment to upholding the law of the land. She has served as a federal public defender and during her time on the U.S. Sentencing Commission, worked to reduce baseless sentencing disparities and ensure sentences imparted were fair. Furthermore, as a former law clerk for Justice Breyer, this is one of those exceptional instances where it would be fitting that she fills the seat her mentor is vacating. I look forward to Judge Brown Jackson receiving a full and fair hearing before the Senate and subsequent confirmation as a capable, competent, and qualified adjudicator of jurisprudence to sit on the highest court of the land barring none.”
