Congressman Al Green’s Statement on the 50th Anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964
On Wednesday, July 2, 2014, Congressman Al Green released the following statement on the 50th Anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
"Today, on July 2, 2014, we mark the 50th anniversary of the historic passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which targeted lingering legal invidious discrimination in our nation. This legislation reaffirmed the principle of equality under the law for all. As we commemorate this law, we must remember the numerous Americans of all races who advocated, marched, and made great sacrifices so that all Americans could have an opportunity to achieve the American Dream. However, there is still much work to be done to preserve the progress we have made, as well as combat enduring inequalities in (including but not limited to) income and education in our society. There is still great work to be done.”
