Congressman Al Green Thanks FBI for Responding to His Appeal for Uvalde Investigation

(Houston, TX) — On Friday, June 3, 2022, Congressman Al Green released the following statement:

“Last week I sent a letter to the FBI urging them to conduct a federal independent investigation into the mass shooting that occurred on May 24, 2022 in Uvalde, Texas. It is of utmost importance that investigative efforts into this horrific massacre are conducted swiftly, fairly, and with transparency. Without answers or a full and accurate account of what transpired at Robb Elementary School on that tragic day, we cannot fully move forward as a country to protect our children and prevent more senseless deaths. The entire Uvalde community as well as the American people deserve answers.”

“It is not enough for things to be right, they must also look right, and currently they are neither. Any investigation into the Uvalde mass shooting must bear the imprimatur of an independent body, such as the FBI. It is with this in mind that I am pleased to share that I have received a response from the FBI today and am very grateful to the agency for addressing my inquiry. The FBI reiterated their full support of ongoing investigative efforts, including a Critical Incident Review to be conducted by the U.S. Department of Justice. According to the Department of Justice and the FBI, ‘the goal of this review is to provide an independent account of law enforcement actions and responses that day, and to identify lessons learned and best practices to help first responders prepare for and respond to active shooter events.’”

“My concerns for a full and fair review by the Department of Justice of the Uvalde mass shooting have not ameliorated, and my apprehension about the threat posed by lethal weapons of war has intensified. Multiple mass shootings since the massacre in Uvalde continue to rattle our nation. When will we end the bloodshed?”
