Congressman Al Green Supports Full, Thorough Investigation of All Involved in Capitol Insurrection in Wake of Learning Off-Duty Houston PD Officer Wrongfully Entered on January 6

(Washington, DC) – On Thursday, January 14, 2021, Congressman Al Green released the following statement:

“The January 6 Capitol insurrection is a day that will forever live in infamy for our nation. A throng of our now twice-impeached president’s supporters, who were emboldened by his seditious speech, gravely threatened many innocent lives in an attempt to thwart one of America’s most sacred democratic practices – the transference of power through the ballot and not the bullet,” Congressman Al Green emphatically stated. “As I have learned that one of Houston’s own police officers may have been involved in this violent uprising and that he will likely face federal charges, I stress the importance of a continued, thorough FBI investigation to uncover each individual who may have contributed to this treasonous act.”

Congressman Green concluded by saying, “No one should be allowed to return to their home states and towns and simply assume their lives as usual, without penalty if they participated in this insurrection. Those who breached the security of our nation’s Capitol – including police officers – must be punished according to the full letter of the law.”
