Congressman Al Green Supports Commission to Investigate Capitol Insurrection

May 19, 2021

(Washington, D.C.) – On Wednesday, May 19, 2021, Congressman Al Green released the following statement in support of H.R. 3233, the National Commission to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol Complex Act:

“William Cullen Bryant once penned, ‘Truth, crushed to earth, shall rise again.’ There are people attempting to crush the truth of what happened on January 6, 2021. There are people content with classifying this as an act of patriotism. There are people who think this event was an isolated event, solely the result of the actions of bad actors. However, the truth is that what took place on January 6, 2021 was an act of domestic terrorism against our democracy,” stated Congressman Al Green. “This day will forever live in infamy, and we must uncover the truth. I support the bipartisan National Commission to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol Complex Act.”

Congressman Green added, “This legislation will create a bipartisan commission to investigate and report to the President and Congress the facts and causes of the Capitol insurrection. The Commission will include 10 members; five commissioners appointed by Speaker Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Schumer as well as five commissioners appointed by Minority Leader McCarthy and Senate Minority Leader McConnell. By the end of this year, the Commission will report its findings, conclusions, and recommendations for corrective measures taken to prevent future acts of targeted violence and domestic terrorism. I proudly vote ‘YES’ for H.R. 3233.”
