Congressman Al Green Stands in Support of U.S. Air Force Major Jason Watson Following Latest Detention

August 20, 2026

(Houston, TX)—On Thursday, August 20, 2026, Congressman Al Green released the following statement regarding U.S. Air Force Major Jason Watson following reports that he was taken into custody again on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, after informing his chain of command that he would no longer wear his military uniform. Major Watson previously joined Congressman Al Green, Jessica Denson, founder of the Removal Coalition, and other advocates in a peaceful demonstration on July 1, 2026, at the U.S. Capitol calling for the impeachment of President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance. Congressman Green stood alongside Major Watson at the demonstration and witnessed his arrest on the steps of the U.S. Capitol following the protest.

Congressman Al Green stated, “Major Watson dedicated more than two decades of his life to serving our country and defending the Constitution. His decision to no longer wear the uniform he has worn in service to this nation is a powerful symbolic expression of his belief that his oath is first and foremost an oath to the Constitution. I stood with Major Watson as he called for the impeachment, conviction, and removal of President Donald Trump, and I continue to stand with him today. Impeachment is a constitutional remedy and a means of holding a president accountable for abuses of power. Major Watson and I share the conviction that no person, including the President of the United States, is above the law, which is why I will file new articles of impeachment before the end of this month.”
