Congressman Al Green Joins Houston Food Bank to Recognize National Food Bank Day as well as Commence Hunger Action Month and Address Food Insecurity in the Greater Houston Area
(Houston, TX) — On Friday, September 1, 2023, Congressman Al Green will attend a press conference hosted by the Houston Food Bank to recognize National Food Bank Day and mark the commencement of Hunger Action Month. The focus of the press event will be the economic inequality that contributes to food insecurity and a lack of access to nutritious foods in the Greater Houston Area.
Congressman Al Green is a strong advocate for seniors and will address the necessity to ensure that they have access to the resources they need to live healthy and independent lives. He is committed to working with the Houston Food Bank and submitted a federal funding request for FY2024 in the amount of $650,000 to increase food security.
“Reliable access to healthy food is a basic human need, one that is far too often unfulfilled in our community, especially for senior citizens,” stated Congressman Al Green. “I am proud to support the Houston Food Bank’s Senior Box Program that distributes produce and other health-related items to income-eligible seniors 60 and up. Together, we can provide access to the food our seniors need to stay healthy and strong.”
