Congressman Al Green Joins First Lady Dr. Jill Biden on Visit to Texas Children’s Hospital in the Ninth Congressional District
(Houston, TX) – On Sunday, November 14, 2021, Congressman Al Green (TX-09) released the following statement:
“It is my great pleasure to welcome the First Lady of the United States Dr. Jill Biden to the City of Houston. As an educator,Dr. Biden has pursued a lifelong commitment to ensure equal access to education for all. I commend the First Lady for her steadfast support of expanding early childhood education and understanding how crucial healthcare is to this endeavor. This is why her visit today to the COVID-19 pediatric vaccination clinic at Texas Children’s Hospital in the Ninth Congressional District is so important. Although children are at low risk of contracting COVID-19, the best measure to eradicate this deadly virus is through vaccination,” Congressman Al Green said.
Congressman Al Green – who supports the Build Back Better Act, which includes $390 billion for universal pre-kinder access for three- and four-years-olds – continued, “Althoughuniversal pre-kindergarten will help children gain an equal start in life, they must first be allowed to step inside a virus-free classroom. Efforts to get all children back into schools and give them equal access to education cannot be thwarted by the constant threat of viral outbreaks and disruptions to their learning, social development, and key experiences that cannot be replicated outside the classroom. I thank First Lady Dr. Biden and U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy for allowing me to join them in Houston today and bring attention to the importance of vaccinating children across the nation.”
