February 14, 2025

(Washington, D.C.) — On Friday, February 14, 2025, Congressman Al Green marked National Salute to Veteran Patients Week by distributing U.S. Constitutions and 1,000 American flags flown over the U.S. Capitol to veterans. The distribution occurred at the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center (MEDVAMC). This event was a tribute to courageous individuals dedicated to serving and safeguarding our country.

National Salute to Veteran Patients Week is an annual event that allows the public to show love and appreciation for our Veterans during Valentine’s. This year, the Office of Congressman Al Green collaborated with volunteers from the International Union of Elevator Constructors as well as the Heat & Frost Insulators and Allied Workers who contributed their time to fold 1,000 flags. These flags were presented to both inpatient and outpatient Veterans at MEDVAMC as well as the nearby Veterans Benefits Administration Houston Regional Office.

Congressman Al Green stated, “We stand united in honoring our Veterans as the true heroes they are during National Salute to Veterans Patients Week. Their sacrifices and bravery have paved the way for our freedoms, and this initiative serves as a heartfelt expression of our gratitude. Each flag symbolizes not only our appreciation but also our unwavering commitment to the well-being of those willing to pledge their all in service to the country. We are the land of the free because of the brave.”
