Congressman Al Green Condemns Russian Invasion of Ukraine, Stands in Solidarity with Ukrainian Community

(Houston, TX) – On Friday, February 25, 2022, Congressman Al Green (TX-09) released the following statement:

“With strength and resolve, I join my colleagues in Congress, President Biden, and our NATO allies in denouncing Russia’s attack on a sovereign nation. Russia’s unprovoked assault on Ukraine is not only an assault on the Ukrainian people, but also an assault on democracy worldwide. We must stand together during this difficult time and acknowledge the cost of freedom at home and abroad, while extending a hand of friendship to our Ukrainian brothers and sisters,” Congressman Al Green stated.

“Today I met with key leaders of the Ukrainian community in Houston to discuss the U.S. response to this crisis. Now is a time of great peril not only for Ukraine’s economy and infrastructure, but also for countless men, women, and children whose lives are being unjustly uprooted. In the time-honored words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., ‘Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.’ Thus, it is imperative that we go to greater lengths to assist Ukraine than the recently announced sanctions on major Russian financial institutions. I’ll be using my voice in Congress by sending a letter to President Biden urging financial support, humanitarian aid, and immediate military support, specifically in the form of portable hardware, ammunition, and fuel for Ukraine. I look forward to continue working to strengthen global security and democratic states around the world.”
