Congressman Al Green Attends President Biden’s State of the Union Address

March 2, 2022

(Houston, TX) – On Tuesday, March 1, 2022, Congressman Al Green (TX-09) released the following statement:

“President Biden has done an outstanding job of fulfilling his promise of building back a better America. The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which he signed into law last November, is an unprecedented comprehensive investment in our nation’s aging infrastructure. Thanks to this signature legislation, we will be able to rebuild bridges, restore roads, expand broadband internet access, and replace lead pipes across the length and breadth of our nation.”

“Although we are still in recovery, under President Biden’s leadership, our economic activity is returning to normalized levels, in some cases even exceeding pre-pandemic numbers. Unemployment rates continue to decline to historic lows and a record 6.4 million jobs were added to the U.S. economy in 2021. The construction sector has regained 91% of the jobs lost during the pandemic and over the course of 2021, more than 300,000 manufacturing jobs were added. And while inflation remains a pressing challenge globally and domestically, President Biden has continued to fight relentlessly for consumers. Easing rising costs, from food to energy prices, and addressing supply chain issues continues to be a top priority for him. The Federal Reserve’s role is instrumental to this mission, which is why President Biden nominated three capable, qualified individuals to help steer us through this crisis.”

“The Biden administration has also taken extraordinary measures to build a better America by keeping COVID-19 at bay through domestic vaccination efforts, global vaccine distribution, expanded testing access, and increased vaccine eligibility. Efforts to curb the recent surge of the Omicron variant are succeeding, and COVID-related hospitalizations continue to decline.”

“I also echo President Biden’s message that democracy will prevail over autocracy. I stand with Ukraine and am proud to stand in unity with the rest of the world against President Putin’s unprovoked war of choice. We must save democracy.”
