Congressman Al Green Helps Many Low-Income Families File to Get Up to $6,728

April 12, 2022

(Houston, TX) — On Tuesday, April 12, 2022, Congressman Al Green released the following statement:

“With the deadline to file taxes around the corner, it is important to make sure eligible recipients are informed of the resources and incentives available to them so they do not leave money on the table; money that could otherwise be used to feed their families. In 2018, 26.5 million households with an earned income of less than $57,414 received a total of $64.9 billion from the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) simply by filing a tax return. And in Texas alone, this year’s Child Tax Credit (CTC) is estimated to benefit over three million families with over six million children,” Congressman Al Green said. “The EITC, CTC, Recovery Rebate Credit, and Child and Dependent Care Credit are all sources of additional income for eligible low-income households. My hope is that families will continue taking advantage of these refundable tax credits that are meant to put much-needed money into their households and alleviate hardship.”

Congressman Al Green concluded, “As we continue working hard to emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic and face increasing costs of living, I am grateful to be able to work with the City of Houston and BakerRipley Community Developers to continue serving my constituency and the greater Houston area. I thank them for their participation in this event and look forward to further collaboration.”
