Congressman Al Green’s Statement on Passage of a Continuing Resolution to Avert Government Shutdown and Appropriate Funding for American Families

September 30, 2021

(Houston, TX) – On Thursday, September 30, 2021, Congressman Al Green (TX-09) released the following statement on the passage of the Continuing Resolution:

“After much speculation and debate on the fate of this legislation, I am pleased to announce the House has passed the Continuing Resolution (CR) this afternoon. This bill’s passage was of utmost importance, as it averts a government shutdown and ensures our government is funded through December 3rd of this year. Failure to pass this Resolution would have been catastrophic for families as the economy recovers from the pandemic.”

“The CR extends funding for various public sectors including education, housing, health, and sets aside approximately $28 million for families across the country who have been severely affected by recent natural disasters. It also delivers funding to help with resettlement efforts for our Afghan allies who are fleeing harm’s way.”

This resolution, which was amended by the Senate before being sent back to the House for final passage, will now move on to President Biden’s desk to sign into law.

Congressman Al Green concluded, “I am proud that my colleagues on both sides of the aisle acted responsibly and with dignity to protect our nation’s economy from further damage. Ordinary Americans, many of whom are struggling amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, do not deserve to be burdened with additional hardships due to Congress’ discord. May our country and people benefit greatly from this legislation they deserve.”
