Congressman Al Green Supports VAWA as Original Cosponsor

Mar 17, 2021

(Washington, DC) – On Wednesday, March 17, 2021, Congressman Al Green released the following statement in support of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), of which he is a proud original cosponsor:

“One in three women and one in four men have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner. Since 1994, these numbers have dramatically decreased with reauthorizations of VAWA, which has expanded protections for domestic violence victims and implemented critically needed preventive measures. These statistics are more than mere numbers, however; they represent the American people who have endured the traumas of domestic violence,” stated Congressman Al Green. “This is why I supported reauthorizing VAWA in 2019 and why I am proud to support this reauthorization as an original cosponsor today. We must persist in all efforts to combat domestic violence until it is completely eradicated and until no one else is forced to live in fear for their lives and safety.”
