(Washington, DC) – On Friday, February 5, 2021, Congressman Al Green released the following statement, indicating his support of H.R. 447 – the National Apprenticeship Act of 2021:

“I support registered apprenticeships as a method to accelerate our nation’s economic recovery in the midst of this downturn, and I am eager to vote ‘YES’ for H.R. 447,” Congressman Al Green emphatically stated. “Apprenticeships can provide ‘bootstraps’ for those too often told to ‘pull themselves up’ without the necessary resources to do so. They offer individuals the opportunity to learn and acquire valuable skills while being paid competitive wages with the opportunity to earn an average annual salary of $70,000 upon completion.”

Congressman Green added, “The COVID-19 pandemic has exploited chronic economic disparities in communities of color especially. Expanding apprenticeships would provide significant opportunities for many out-of-work and underpaid persons of color to start anew with higher wages as well as a pathway to a better quality of life for them and their families.”
