Congressman Al Green Supports Moving Forward with Crucial Budget Reconciliation Process for Life-Saving COVID Relief

Feb 5, 2021

(Washington, DC) – On Friday, February 5, 2021, Congressman Al Green released the following statement, indicating his support for S.Con.Res. 5:

“In the early hours of the morning on February 5, Vice President Harris – the first woman, South Asian, and African American to serve in this capacity – cast the tie-breaking vote to invoke the crucial budget reconciliation process. With the Vice President’s historic vote, this process ensures Congress’s ability to move forward with passing critical coronavirus relief,” stated Congressman Al Green. “I support the use of budget reconciliation to get critical relief to the American people as quickly as possible.”

Congressman Al Green added, “Although bipartisanship should be a premier goal for each Congress, we cannot allow a lack thereof to preclude our ability to deliver on greatly needed legislation for those we serve. When the American people are in dire need of help, it is the job of the branches of the federal government to legislate, execute, and adjudicate policies for the common good. We must work to pass life-saving coronavirus relief legislation now.”
