Feb 19, 2020 Issues: Veterans, Health Care

(Houston, TX) – On Wednesday, February 19, 2020, Congressman Al Green visited patients at Michael E. Debakey VA Medical Center (MEDVAMC) in honor of National Salute to Veteran Patients Week. Congressman Green released the following statement:

“For over a decade, it has been my honor to participate in National Salute to Veteran Patients Week by honoring those receiving care at the VA hospital in the Ninth Congressional District of Texas. This week has been recognized by the Department of Veterans Affairs since 1978 to show veteran patients that they are appreciated and will not be forgotten. Tens of thousands of volunteers provide priceless service to the more than 9 million patients receiving treatment at VA medical centers across the United States.

“I contribute to this annual act of kindness by joining my district staff and local volunteers in delivering more than 600 flags flown over the U.S. Capitol to the bedside of veteran patients at Houston’s VA Medical Center. I must thank Medical Center Director Francisco Vazquez, the MEDVAMC staff, and all the volunteers from various local entities for their support in commemorating National Salute to Veteran Patients Week. Additionally, I must acknowledge local representatives from the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Marine Corps, and U.S. Navy for their participation in this annual event. Together, we are working to show our veteran patients that they are still respected and treasured by a grateful Nation."
