Jul 16, 2021

(Houston, TX) – On Friday, July 16, 2021, Congressman Al Green – in conjunction with VN Teamwork – hosted a community event highlighting the new Child Tax Credit. Special guests included Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Wally Adeyemo and Congresswoman Sylvia R. Garcia (TX-29). Congressman Green released the following statement:

“From school closures to alarmingly increased food insecurity and child poverty, American families have been hard hit by the exacerbated impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. This is why I am excited for families to begin receiving the largest ever child tax relief and why I have collaborated with the local organization, VN Teamwork, to provide information about the Child Tax Credit to the community,” Congressman Al Green said in a statement. “I thank VN Teamwork, the Department of the Treasury, as well as my colleague and friend Congresswoman Garcia for their participation in this event.”

Congressman Green added, “The additional income the Child Tax Credit will provide is a game changer for working families across our nation. I encourage all families to visit www.childtaxcredit.gov to verify their eligibility.”

Deputy Secretary of the Treasury Wally Adeyemo said, “The expanded Child Tax Credit is providing critical relief to working families who were having trouble making ends meet even before the pandemic. By making the Child Tax Credit a monthly payment, families will be able to better plan for it and use it to cover every day expenses, like groceries and school supplies.”

“I am proud to have joined our community today and witness the start of our path to recovery. Help is here and the Child Tax Credit is arriving to millions of families around the country,” said Congresswoman Sylvia R. Garcia (TX-29). “Leadership matters and this investment in our children will allow at least 95% of them in my district to thrive in our society as we recover from this pandemic.”

Executive Director Mike Nguyen of VN Teamwork added, “The CTC is vital for the low income community that we serve.  We have so many families that have come to us looking for rental assistance and other means to help them through the economic difficulties from the pandemic. VN TeamWork will be here to help year round with anyone needing assistance or having issues with receiving the CTC.”
