Congressman Al Green Commends Minnesota Attorney General on Charging of 3 Officers Involved with Death of George Floyd

Jun 3, 2020

(Houston, TX) – On Wednesday, June 3, 2020, Congressman Al Green released the following statement:

“I have consistently called for the prosecution and punishment of the four officers involved in the egregious policing behaviors that led to the tragic death of Mr. George Floyd on May 25, 2020, after one of those officers kneeled on Mr. Floyd’s neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds,” Congressman Al Green stated. “The next day, the four officers were fired. I urged that being fired was not enough and still pushed for prosecution and punishment. Four days after the incident, the kneeling officer was charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. I continued pushing for the prosecution and punishment of all four officers. Now, nine days after the incident, the Minnesota Attorney General has announced aiding and abetting murder charges for the other three officers.”

Green added, “While I commend the Attorney General’s charges, I must emphasize that we will not rest until these four officers are prosecuted and punished by the court of law. George Floyd’s life mattered, and while the convictions we seek will not restore his life, they will set a precedent that would serve to stop the recurrence of these vicious and merciless actions by law enforcement agents against unarmed black people across our nation.”
