Congressman Al Green’s Response to Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Testimony Before Congress

Jul 24, 2019

(Washington, D.C.) – On Wednesday, July 24, 2019, Congressman Al Green released the following statement in response to Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s testimony before Congress:

“Ninety-eight days ago, Special Counsel Robert Mueller released the Report on the Investigation into Russian Interference in the 2016 Presidential Election, which was the two-volume culminating result of a nearly two-year investigation. Each day that followed represented a day that President Donald John Trump was above the law without charge for the report’s findings.

"Today, Mr. Mueller was questioned by Congress and testified about the findings of his report. With each question he consistently relied on the Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) rule that prohibits the indictment of a sitting U.S. President and insisted that President Trump was not exonerated by the report. Any time that passes after the conclusion of Mr. Mueller’s testimony without corrective action against the President will only be added to the time that President Trump is above the law.

“Now that we have read Mr. Mueller’s report and heard his testimony, we have only two choices. Either Congress will evoke the constitutional impeachment of the President or continue to allow the President to be above the law. We must take a stand against the President’s lawlessness, bigotry, obstructive behavior, and overall unfitness to be President. This can only be accomplished through impeachment.”
